Food for the Braindead

This is Day 14 of my 31 Days of August Awesomeness Blog Challenge. Want to know more? Check out the inaugural post here.

You may remember on Day 12 I mentioned the fact that I’m traveling quite a bit the latter part of August. I actually just got back earlier this afternoon from a whirlwind overnight trip to visit a client in California.

I was on planes for 7-1/2 hours yesterday, and 3-1/2 hours today. That’s a lot of plane time. Yesterday the batteries ran out on all of my electronic devices I was on a plane so long (that made me a bit cranky).  Even though I’m technically not doing anything but sitting there, travel can be exhausting.

I find myself sitting here tonight braindead. I know that I should writing. (Books don’t write themselves!) But I just can’t find the energy to do it. I’ve even taken a nap, but my body’s battery is running on low.

Instead of giving myself over to the TV, I try something else. I read. Now I had a goal at the beginning of the year to read a book a week in 2012. Right now, according to my Goodread status, I’m 11 books behind. Oops.

When I read, I read fast. My virtual bookshelf has over a 100 books to be read on it. So it’s not for lack of material; I’ve been severely lacking in time. Since June, all of my free time has been poured into writing books. I haven’t had any time to actually read any.

So I’m using this rare bit of free time, when my brain just is not cooperating with me on the writing front, to get caught up on some reading. Of course I’ve blown through two books in the last two days and have started the third (I’ve gotten completely sucked into the Peachville Demon series by Sarra Cannon). What I love about this fortunate happenstance is that I also start feeling inspired again about my writing.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be fully charged and ready to go again. But until then, you’ll find me tucked away in a corner reading. 🙂
